The Challenge

How do you sell art? Especially art that blends traditional woodworking and skateboards? We found a way. We started with the Maker. Classic pieces of art, photography, and traditional techniques from woodworking inspire him. The challenge seems straightforward. Find an audience and develop the experience to sell the pieces. This is how we began and built the Victory Boards brand.

The Solution

We garnered insight from the maker and looked into the disciplines of woodworking, graphic design and classic art. We developed a style true to the intention of the pieces and gave it a fresh and modern aesthetic.

Initial Design Exploration & Sketches

We began by understanding the client. We knew this art and the creator could not be separated and the artist had a lot of input. The art and the individual style of the artist is minimalistic. We used this to design a logo that spoke to the streamlined look of the art and the youthful aesthetic of the artist. What resulted was a dynamic mark.

Building a System

Victory (vic·to·ry | \ ˈvik-t(ə-)rē):  1) the overcoming of an enemy or antagonist; 2) achievement of mastery or success in a struggle or endeavor against odds or difficulties. We started with the definition. We were drawn to the “achievement of mastery or success” aspect.

Wayfinding

These boards were made as pieces of art. Not to ride. So, we came up with wayfinding concepts to guide people through a gallery space. We took elements from the boards and the creative process and used them to build a system that complimented the brand. Though there is not much traditional about the brand, we wanted to incorporate some traditional elements of wayfinding into the vernacular.

Fashion Statement

We wanted to carry over the brand’s aesthetic to apparel. So, we used classic imagery and the brand mark to create a line of t-shirts.

IMAGERY

We worked with the client to deliver quality images of their work. We wanted to showcase their creative ability with images that highlighted the skateboard’s theme.

Web Presence

To complete the project, we crafted a bespoke website to build awareness for the art and artist. The content and imagery showcased the methods of building each board. We took the same approach with establishing a social media presence.

Social Media

Online Presence

We created content and profiles online to increase visibility for the brand. By incorporating engaging images of construction and final designs, we built a following on Facebook, Instagram and other platforms.

Demographics

We found the audience and drove compelling content to them.

Interaction

Connecting the artist with the admirer bridged an important gap. The interaction provided familiarity and appreciation.

Summary

We worked alongside the artist and created an engaging brand and content to reach a responsive audience.
